Violin & Guitar Duo

This goal of this session was to make a solid Dolby Atmos recording. We were back in the theater again for this session and the small and soft instrumentation worked very well in the large chamber environment. To capture ambience in surround, we created a Hamasaki Cube. We also made an equilateral triangle between the two performers and a center channel omni microphone. All three of the spot mics were U87s, with the ones left and right set to cardioid.

In the mix, I used all of the microphones except for the ambisonic ones. The other goal for this session was to compare the mix with the Hamasaki Cube and traditional spot mics, to an Atmos mix made up of only the ambisonic microphones. This is to see how well an entire surround sound mix could be derived from a pair of ambisonic microphones. I will upload the ambisonic surround sound mix soon.
